Ukraine's EU accession: all clusters to open in july

On June 15, Luxembourg will host two intergovernmental conferences with Ukraine and Moldova, marking the opening of the first negotiating cluster with both countries – "Basics," according to European Pravda.

Kos noted that this will be a "mega-day, or mega-Monday, for the enlargement process."

"First, we will take the first major step for Ukraine and Moldova after they received candidate status in 2023. So, finally, finally, we will be able to open the first cluster for both countries. Why? Because they have fulfilled their obligations, and the time has truly come for us to do so," she stated.

She emphasized that if both countries fulfill their obligations, the EU must also fulfill its own.

"That's why I expect that then, in July, we will open all five remaining clusters. And that's also good news," Kos said.

The "Foundations" cluster covers the rule of law and fundamental rights, the functioning of democratic institutions, public administration reform, and economic criteria. According to EU rules, no other cluster can be successfully concluded until there is significant progress in the "Foundations" cluster. Negotiations begin with this cluster, and it remains open until the very end of the European integration process.

A total of six thematic clusters, covering 33 negotiating chapters, are being considered during the negotiations.
