The EU is developing plans to address the aviation fuel supply crisis and maximize refinery output amid the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
European airlines have warned that a jet fuel shortage could occur within a few weeks and disrupt travel ahead of the summer season, Reuters reports.
Europe is heavily dependent on jet fuel imports, with about 75% of its supplies coming from the Middle East.
A draft proposal reviewed by Reuters states that starting next month, the European Commission will begin mapping EU-wide petroleum product refining capacity and will introduce measures to ensure its full utilization.
The EU is working on measures aimed at jet fuel supplies, but they are still in the development stage, officials familiar with the proposals said. These plans are set to be published on April 22.
