The operation was conducted in international waters in the Atlantic Ocean with the support of several partners, including the United Kingdom.

The operation was carried out in strict compliance with maritime law.

"It is unacceptable for vessels to circumvent international sanctions, violate maritime law, and finance the war that Russia has been waging against Ukraine for more than four years. These vessels, which do not comply with the most basic rules of maritime navigation, also pose a threat to the environment and the safety of all," stressed French President Emmanuel Macron.
