Iran shelled Bahrain and Kuwait

Iran threatened to completely end negotiations to end the war if Washington continues its shelling, the Associated Press reports.

The latest escalation occurred amid attempts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz without Tehran's control. The day before, a multinational maritime body led by the US Navy announced it would expand the route near Oman for ships entering and exiting the strait.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran must control the strait leading to the Persian Gulf.

"Any attempts to establish new or separate agreements different from those currently implemented by the Islamic Republic of Iran will only lead to further complications, delay the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and increase tensions," Araghchi stated.

In Kuwait, which hosts a major US military base, air defense forces intercepted Iranian drones and two missiles. There were no reports of casualties or damage.

In Bahrain, home to the US Navy's Fifth Fleet, strikes damaged a residential building near the international airport, but there were no casualties. The country's Foreign Ministry condemned the attack, calling it a dangerous escalation and a systematic pattern of repeated aggression by Tehran.

Qatar reported the death of one civilian and the injury of another as a result of debris impacts during military operations in the region. This followed Saturday's attack on the Panama-flagged tanker Kiku, which was carrying oil for Qatar's state-owned company. In response to the attack, the US military struck Iranian surveillance infrastructure, communications systems, air defense systems, drone storage sites, and minefields.

US President Donald Trump responded to the escalation. He accused Iran of violating the agreement and warned that the time might come when the US would be forced to resolve the issue militarily.

"If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist!" Trump wrote.
