Strait of Hormuz
As part of Operation Freedom, destroyers, more than 100 aircraft, and 15,000 troops will be deployed to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
“On May 4, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces will begin supporting Operation Freedom with the aim of restoring freedom of navigation for merchant vessels through the Strait of Hormuz,” U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced.
CENTCOM will carry out the mission at the direction of U.S. President Donald Trump and will provide support to merchant ships seeking to pass freely through this vital international trade corridor.
U.S. military support for Operation Freedom will include guided-missile destroyers, more than 100 land- and sea-based aircraft, multi-role unmanned platforms, and 15,000 service members.
