Poland may transfer old MiG-29s to Ukraine in the coming weeks

After a long impasse, the parties have made significant progress. The agreement provides for the delivery of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in exchange for a large number of UAVs of various modifications and the transfer of Ukrainian combat know-how, reports Wirtualna Polska.

These are obsolete Soviet-made aircraft with virtually exhausted service life, which the Polish army is decommissioning from the Air Force. Poland had previously considered scrapping the aircraft.

Janusz Sejmiej, head of the Polish Defense Minister's political cabinet, noted that Warsaw had been counting on cooperation on drones since the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, Kyiv had been reluctant to agree to Warsaw's terms for some time.

For the Polish side, key information includes communications with attack drones, their control principles, video recordings of strikes on targets, and the actual equipment itself.

The Polish Ministry of Defense claims that the process has accelerated since the appointment of Rustem Umerov as head of the Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tasked him, among other things, with negotiating agreements on drones.

Despite the progress, the Polish side remains cautious about the finalization of the contract. According to a source involved in the negotiations, Fire Point is offering to supply Poland with 1,500 long-range UAVs, plus an equal number in the event of war.

"On paper, this looks very good. However, we recognize that in a critical situation, the company could invoke force majeure and say: 'Unfortunately, we are at war, we are unable to fulfill the terms of the agreement, and we need this equipment ourselves because we are in a worse position,'" the source said.
