Russia attacked Ukraine with a secret missile

Comments by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga are the first confirmation that Russia has used the 9M729 ground-based missile in combat operations, either in Ukraine or elsewhere. Such a missile can carry a conventional or nuclear warhead, according to Reuters.

Russia has launched this missile 23 times against Ukraine since August. Ukraine has recorded two launches of the 9M729 by Russia in 2022.

Russia's use of the banned INF 9M729 missile against Ukraine in recent months demonstrates Putin's disrespect for the United States and President Trump's diplomatic efforts to end Russia's war against Ukraine.

Kyiv supports Trump's peace proposals and believes that maximum pressure should be exerted on Russia to force it to make peace, adding that strengthening Ukraine's long-range firepower will help compel Moscow to end the war in Ukraine.

The US withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty in 2019 because of the 9M729 missile. Washington said the missile violates the treaty and can fly far beyond 500 km (310 miles), although Russia has denied this.

The missile, which can carry a nuclear or conventional warhead, has a range of 2,500 km.
