Russian sntelligence cache found near Berlin

Late last summer, agents, following a tip from an informant, stumbled upon a forest cache containing pistols, according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) currently suspects that the cache was created at the request of Russian intelligence services.

The Prosecutor General's Office is investigating the case on suspicion of preparing a serious act of violence threatening the state. A suspect has been detained in Romania.

Law enforcement agencies received information about a professionally equipped cache in Brandenburg, bordering the capital Berlin, and discovered two pistols there.

The weapons found were disabled. The cache was subsequently monitored, but this yielded no results. It is likely that the perpetrators were aware of the discovery.

German security agencies are now convinced that the weapons were being stored for agents who were to carry out "kinetic operations" in Germany on behalf of Moscow, including assassinations.

For several months, BfV head Sinan Selen has been warning that Russia could target individuals. Potential targets include arms manufacturers, exiled opposition figures, and supporters of Ukraine.
