Rheinmetall will produce significantly more artillery shells in Unterluss (Lower Saxony) than previously planned, Handelsblatt reported.

"Instead of 200,000 shells, we will be able to produce up to 350,000 artillery shells there. For this purpose, we have invested a total of about 600 million euros in the company," he said.

Unterluss will be the second largest artillery plant in Europe - after the plant in Spain, where 450 thousand shells per year are planned to be produced.

Papperger believes that rearmament in Europe is irreversible because Rheinmetall only signs long-term contracts.

“Everybody wants factories - we can build them,” he said.

Papperger expects Rheinmetall to have an order intake of 300 billion euros over the next five years.

“By 2030, Europe's budget could grow to one trillion euros,” he said.

About half of this amount will go to investment.
