On June 15, the UK appointed Blaise Metrevely, a career intelligence officer, as the first female head of the Secret Intelligence Service, known as MI6.

Metrevely, 47, who is now head of MI6's technology division, known as “Q,” joined the Secret Intelligence Service in 1999 and has worked in operational roles in the Middle East and Europe for most of her career, Reuters reported.

Richard Moore, the current head of MI6, will step down in the fall after a five-year tenure.

“I am proud and honored to have been entrusted to lead my service,” said Metreveli, who will take up one of the most influential positions in Western intelligence and will be known by the codename “C”.
