US President Donald Trump has announced the launch of a large scale economic operation against Iran.
"No one has given the Islamic Republic of Iran a greater opportunity to strike a deal than I have. Unfortunately for them, they have not taken advantage of it. Therefore, today I am announcing the most devastating economic operation ever waged against any country! This will be economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale," he wrote.
He added that any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government agencies to support Iran will face colossal economic consequences.
"Oil smuggling, swap lines, money transfers, currency exchanges, shipping registries, shell companies—all of this must stop immediately," he said.
Trump called on American allies to work together to isolate and defeat the Iranian threat, calling the announced measures "economic D-Day."
