US President Donald Trump expects a long peace in Ukraine after the conclusion of a potential peace agreement, and that the NATO article on collective defense will not be needed.
This is how Trump responded to a question about whether he fears the application of NATO's Article 5 on the principle of collective defense if the military of the alliance's countries are deployed in Ukraine, Radio Liberty reported.
“I support it, I don't think we will have any reason for it. I think we will have a very successful and long peace. And I hope it happens quickly. If it doesn't happen quickly, it may not happen at all,” he said.
He announced a meeting for Feb. 28, referring to talks with President Vladimir Zelensky.
“I have a lot of respect for Zelensky. We provided him with billions worth of equipment, but they really fought very powerfully and courageously. Someone has to use this equipment, and they fought a really brave fight,” he said.
