UK wants to send its troops to Ukraine for 5 years

Britain's military leaders want to help train and rebuild the Ukrainian army to prevent another Russian invasion, The Telegraph has reported.

Such a scheme has been proposed during discussions being held by Britain and France on a “coalition of the determined”.

The parties are considering various options for sending troops. According to one of them, a European-led force is proposed to be sent to Ukraine to first deter Russia from violating any settlement and give Kiev's military a much-needed respite.

French military planners are convinced that Putin is unlikely to authorize another attack against Western forces inside Ukraine when his forces are only able to seize small areas.

“Pacification forces” led by France and Britain will offer assistance in defending Ukraine's skies and seas.

But the main purpose of the deployment will still be to immediately help train and rebuild Ukraine's armed forces to deter another Russian attack.

The foreign forces will be withdrawn in stages, with the final withdrawal taking place in about five years.
