Ukrainian drone crashes in Lithuania

NKVC Director Vilmantas Vitkauskas said that the crashed drone was likely for military use, according to LRT.

“Yes, it crashed, but there are no visible signs of an explosion. Whether it was armed or not is difficult to say at this point,” he said.

According to preliminary information from the NKVC, this drone may be Ukrainian. However, it is not yet known how it ended up on Lithuanian territory.

“Based on initial indications, on what we see in the wreckage, and on what our colleagues have sent us, it is most likely a Ukrainian drone,” said Vitkauskas.

Vitkauskas stated that the data collected on May 18 will allow for the precise identification of the specific type of drone that crashed on Sunday in the Utena district. According to him, the search for the drone’s wreckage was suspended overnight but resumed in the morning.

“The most important questions are how the drone ended up in Lithuania, at what altitude it was flying, and what gaps exist in our detection capabilities,” he added.

In recent weeks, Ukrainian drones flying to attack targets in Russia have repeatedly entered the airspace of Lithuania, Estonia, and Finland.
