US and Ukraine discussed issues of control over territories

Two Ukrainian officials said that the central topic of discussion was which territories seized by Russia would remain under occupation as part of the peace agreement. The initial version of the US peace plan, consisting of 28 points, called for Ukraine to withdraw without a fight from the unoccupied part of the Donetsk region, according to Axios.

Ukrainian sources described the five-hour meeting as difficult and intense, but productive.

The meeting continued in an expanded format for about an hour. Then three officials from each side remained (Vitkoff, Rubio, and Kushner from the US; Umerov, Skibitsky, and Gnativ from Ukraine), and then the issue of control over the territories became virtually the only issue for discussion.

This was followed by another one-on-one conversation between Umerov and Vitkoff, after which Umerov called Zelensky to report on the results.
