The Trump administration is criticizing Western allies who are preparing to recognize a Palestinian state.
On July 31, Trump administration officials said that plans by Canada, Britain, and France to recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly next month are encouraging Hamas to continue its war with Israel, Politico reported
"The president expressed his displeasure and disagreement with the leaders of France, Britain, and Canada. He believes that this is a reward for Hamas at a time when Hamas is a real obstacle to a ceasefire and the release of all hostages," White House press secretary Caroline Levitt said.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the recognition of a Palestinian state an irrelevant and clumsy move by the leaders of Canada, France, and Britain.
But despite the US's support for Israel, Rubio acknowledged that Western allies' sympathy for the Palestinians in Gaza is hurting Israel's image in the world.
