The US has accused the exchange of helping the Iranian government evade western sanctions.

Washington's new restrictions target Nobitex, Iran's largest digital asset exchange, which was used to process hundreds of millions of dollars in transactions for the Central Bank of Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the US Treasury Department announced.

"While Iran's economy is in free fall, the regime has chosen to exploit digital asset technologies for its own corrupt agenda, including evading sanctions and funneling wealth out of the country," said US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Nobitex has provided significant support to the Iranian regime, processing over 50% of all digital asset inflows from Iran in 2025 and facilitating payments linked to Tehran's terrorist activities, sanctions evasion efforts, and IRGC-linked transactions.

Nobitex helped the Central Bank access hundreds of millions of dollars in stablecoins, which were used to support the sharp decline in the value of the Iranian rial.

After the onset of US military operations, the company played a significant role in moving assets and funds out of Iran to protect the regime's wealth even during the internet shutdown.

The company's founders, two brothers, Seyed Mohammad Ali Agamir Mohammad Ali and Seyed Mohammad Agamir Mohammad Ali, were also included in the added to the US sanctions list along with the exchange's CEO, Amir Hossein Rad.
