U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that companies risk facing U.S. sanctions for cooperating with Iranian airlines.

Bessent called this warning part of a campaign to exert economic pressure on Tehran as part of the U.S. and Israel’s war against Iran, Reuters reports.

Iran has resumed commercial flights from Tehran’s international airport for the first time since the war began.

Specifically, this refers to scheduled flights to Istanbul, the Omani capital Muscat, the Saudi city of Medina, as well as to Iraq and Qatar.

The U.S. Treasury Department stated that Washington is exerting severe financial pressure on the Iranian government.

"Doing business with Iranian airlines subject to sanctions risks incurring U.S. sanctions. Foreign governments must take all necessary measures to ensure that companies within their jurisdictions do not provide services to these aircraft, including the supply of aviation fuel, catering, landing fees, or maintenance," he said.

Bessent added that Iran’s ailing oil industry is beginning to halt production due to the U.S. blockade.

According to him, production will soon drop, and a gasoline shortage will follow.
