U.S. is preparing an amphibious landing in Iran

An amphibious task force led by the USS Boxer and the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit is departing from the U.S. West Coast ahead of schedule. The group includes the amphibious transport dock ships USS Portland and USS Comstock, according to Newsmax.

There are about 4,000 service members aboard these ships, 2,500 of whom are Marines. The ships are carrying F-35 fighter jets, missiles, and equipment for landing troops on shore.

They will pass through the Indo-Pacific region to the Middle East, after which the group will join forces with the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli. Subsequently, they will be joined by the cruiser USS New Orleans and the amphibious transport dock USS Rushmore.

In total, the ships are expected to transport approximately 8,000 military personnel to the conflict zone, including up to 5,000 Marines.
