U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that progress is being made in the negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
“This question would be better directed to the Iranians, because the ball is really in their court,” he said.
He stated that it is the Iranians who must show flexibility, while the U.S. has made it clear that it wants nuclear material removed from Iran, Fox News reports.
“We need to get a definitive confirmation from them that they will not develop nuclear weapons. And I think that if the Iranians are willing to meet with us, this could be a very beneficial deal for both countries. If they are not willing to meet with us there, that is their business,” he said.
According to Vance, the U.S. left the Pakistani capital after 21 hours of negotiations.
“I think the team that was there was unable to strike a deal, and they had to return to Tehran to get approval—either from the Supreme Leader or from someone else—for the terms we had set,” he said.
According to Vance, significant progress was made during the talks in Pakistan and everything went well.
The U.S. expects Iran to make progress in opening the Strait of Hormuz, and if that does not happen, the nature of the talks will change.
