Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that the world today must choose between peace and war.
“Today, humanity must once again choose between peace and war, dialogue and confrontation, win-win cooperation or zero-sum games,” Xi said.
He praised China's role in World War II: “The Chinese people, at great national sacrifice, made a significant contribution to saving human civilization and preserving world peace,” CNN reports.
“History reminds us that the fate of humanity is closely linked,” Xi Jinping added.
The Chinese leader stressed that only by treating each other as equals, living in harmony and supporting each other can all countries and nations maintain common security, eliminate the root causes of war and prevent the recurrence of historical tragedies.
