The US is breaking off cooperation with Europe

Last week, European countries received a message from the State Department that the US is terminating memoranda of understanding signed last year under the administration of former President Joe Biden, which aimed to form a unified approach to identifying and exposing harmful information from these countries, according to The Financial Times.

The memoranda were part of an initiative led by the Global Engagement Center (GEC), a State Department agency that combated disinformation spread abroad by US adversaries and terrorist groups.

James Rubin, who headed the center until December, called the move a “unilateral act of disarmament” in the information war with Russia and China.

“Information warfare is a reality of our time, and artificial intelligence will only increase the risks associated with it,” he said.

According to Rubin's estimates, over the past year, about 22 countries in Europe and Africa have signed agreements with the US. They became part of the Biden administration's program to counter foreign manipulation, which aimed to build a common understanding of the threat and cooperate with partner countries on a joint response.
