President Donald Trump signed three executive orders imposing 50% tariffs on certain Canadian goods in response to Canada's discriminatory treatment of American products.

The new tariffs apply to both everyday consumer goods, such as wine and hockey sticks, and industrial products, such as construction cement, according to the White House.

However, the new tariffs will not affect energy products, potash fertilizers, fish, or critical minerals. They will, however, affect products previously protected from tariffs by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

The new tariffs are in addition to existing trade restrictions between the two countries: the United States already imposes tariffs of 15% to 50% on Canadian steel, aluminum, and copper.

The US imposes a 35% tariff on Canadian softwood lumber and a 25% tax on non US made components in automobiles.
