Trump indifferent to EU agreement

In order to achieve what President Donald Trump considers to be the best terms with trading partners and ways to reduce the US's huge trade deficit, his administration is negotiating trade agreements before August 1, when tariffs on most US imports are set to rise again, Reuters reports.

"We are very close on India, and we could make a deal with the EU. The EU was tough, and now they are very nice. They want to make a deal, and it will be very different from what we had for many years. We can make a deal with Europe. You know, I'm very indifferent to it," Trump said, claiming that he considers the letter he sent to the EU to be an agreement.

When asked about the prospects for an agreement with Canada, which, like the EU, is preparing countermeasures if negotiations with the US do not lead to an agreement, Trump said, “It's too early to talk about that.”

Trump is likely to impose a general tariff of 10% or 15% on smaller countries.
