Trump threatens Macron with 100% tariffs

Trump expressed this warning to French President Emmanuel Macron, demanding the repeal of the 3% tax on American tech giants, according to The New York Post.

"I asked him not to tax American companies, and if they do, I will have no choice but to impose a 100% tariff on all champagne and all wine coming from France. All Macron has to do is repeal the sales tax, and he won't feel this pressure," he added.

This ultimatum sets the stage for a heated confrontation at the G7 summit, which will take place in France on Monday.

Alcohol is one of the EU's leading exports to the US, with a volume of approximately €9 billion in 2024.

Since 2019, France has been imposing a 3% levy on digital services revenues generated in France by companies with domestic revenue exceeding €25 million and global revenue exceeding €750 million.
