Pentagon Chief Pete Hegset stated that $400 million in funding for Ukraine had been released following several weeks of internal reviews and delays at the U.S. Department of Defense.
“The funding was released as of yesterday,” he noted.
According to him, the delay was due to a legal review at the Pentagon, Notus reports.
In Congress, some lawmakers expressed dissatisfaction with the delays. Senator Mitch McConnell stated that the funds were “sitting idle” and had been held up by the Pentagon’s policy directorate.
Pentagon Comptroller Jay Hurst reported that the funds were undergoing a legal review and also noted that the timing of the aid’s delivery would depend on how Ukraine uses it: “It depends on what they buy with it.”
