Delivering Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine is unlikely, as the existing stockpiles of these missiles are intended for the US Navy and other purposes.
US Vice President J.D. Vance said on Sunday that Washington is considering Ukraine's request for long-range Tomahawk missiles, which can strike deep into Russia, including Moscow, Reuters reports.
The US will provide Ukraine with intelligence on energy infrastructure facilities deep within Russia.
A US official and sources familiar with the development and delivery of Tomahawk missiles questioned the feasibility of providing subsonic cruise missiles, which have a range of 2,500 km.
The US official suggested that Kyiv could be supplied with other shorter-range options.
He noted that the US may consider allowing European allies to acquire other long-range weapons and supply them to Ukraine, but Tomahawks are unlikely to be among them.
In recent weeks, US President Donald Trump has dramatically shifted his rhetoric regarding the war in Ukraine, declaring that Kyiv could recapture all the territories seized by Russia and calling the Russian army a "paper tiger."
The US decision to help Ukraine target Russian energy infrastructure appears to be one concrete result of this new stance.
