US and Iran close to memorandum

Vance, who led the US negotiating delegation during the talks with Iran in Islamabad in April and has been actively engaged in the matter since, said it was difficult for him to say when President Donald Trump would sign the memorandum, Axios reports.

Trump and his advisers believed they were close to an agreement several times during the previous stages of the conflict, but negotiations repeatedly stalled.

"We're discussing several points regarding the language. We've made significant progress on that. We're hopeful that we'll continue to move forward and the president will be able to approve the agreement, but obviously that's not a done deal yet. I can't guarantee that we'll get there. But right now, I'm fairly optimistic about that," he said.
