US imposes sanctions against Cuba

The sanctions target five Cuban entities and eight individuals involved in the procurement of military equipment abroad for the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) and the Cuban regime's security forces.

The State Department notes that the Cuban communist regime is a state sponsor of terrorism that spies and conducts operations against the United States, collaborating with US adversaries such as China, Russia, and Iran.

The sanctions are being imposed in accordance with an executive order issued by US President Donald Trump.

The following companies are included in the sanctions list: Tecnoimport, Duna S.A., Union de Industria Militar, Empresa Militar Industrial Yuri Gagarin, and Tecnotex. They are involved in the purchase and supply of military equipment from China and Russia to Cuba, as well as the repair of Russian-made military aircraft and the modernization of Russian-made weapons systems in cooperation with Russian defense organizations.

The individuals subject to sanctions include the head of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Alvaro Lopez Miera; the Chief of the General Staff, Roberto Legra Sotolongo; the Cuban military attaché to Russia, Monica Milian Gomez; the military attaché to China; officials from the Ministry of the Armed Forces; and business executives.
