The Czech government announced the allocation of funds for the PURL program, which purchases American weapons for Ukraine.

This will be the first time that Andrej Babiš's government has joined the military aid program for Kyiv, according to European Pravda.

Before arriving at the NATO summit in Ankara, Foreign Minister Petr Macinky announced that the Czech Republic would redirect funds from some projects to the PURL initiative, under which allied countries pay for American military equipment for Ukraine.

"We are currently considering redirecting some projects, which are necessarily financed from our budget for Ukraine, specifically to this PURL program," he said.

The minister is expected to present the Czech Republic's change of position during a dinner between NATO and Ukrainian foreign ministers on Wednesday.

Babiš's coalition partner, the Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party, categorically objects to the Czech Republic's participation in the PURL initiative.

"This issue was never discussed at a coalition council meeting. It was the Foreign Minister's decision," said party spokesperson Lenka Čejková.

Since Andrej Babiš's premiership began in late 2025, the Czech Republic has not provided military aid to Ukraine, nor has it made any financial commitments to support Kyiv.
