Intense Iranian missile and drone strikes have almost completely depleted the Gulf States’ stocks of air defense interceptor missiles.

Since February 28, Iran has launched nearly 1,200 ballistic missiles and 4,000 Shahed-type drones at Gulf countries. According to Bloomberg, missile defense doctrine requires firing two missiles at each target.

The vast majority of the munitions used are Patriot PAC-3 and GEM-T missiles. Before the war, there were fewer than 2,800 of them in the Gulf states, according to U.S. arms sales authorization data, as well as estimates from three experts and a person familiar with the matter.

The U.S. Department of Defense stated that it has all the munitions necessary to carry out its mission. FMS documents show how many missiles were ordered or approved, but it is possible that fewer were actually delivered.

The U.S. has launched hundreds of Tomahawk missiles worth $2 million, as well as more than 1,000 JASSM missiles worth $1.5 million.

Before the war, U.S. stockpiles numbered about 4,000 Tomahawk missiles, while RTX Corp. produces approximately 100 such missiles per year. According to government documents, Lockheed Martin may produce no more than 860 JASSM missiles this year. Both types of missiles are designed to strike long-range targets, penetrate air defense systems, and destroy small targets.
