More than 1,700 people have died as a result of the earthquakes in Venezuela

A total of 22,619 victims are currently receiving medical care in hospitals, field hospitals, and triage centers. For those displaced, the government has set up 15 large shelters in the state of La Guaira, which was hardest hit by the disaster, and another 50 in the Caracas metropolitan area, according to Bloomberg.

A large-scale search and rescue operation is ongoing in the disaster zone. 3,319 rescuers from around the world, 140 specially trained search dogs, and 49 pieces of equipment are involved. More than 700,000 tons of humanitarian aid have already been delivered to the country.

Rescue teams continue their search and are still finding and extracting survivors from the rubble, even though the critical 72-hour window has passed.

At around 6:00 a.m. local time on Monday, a new magnitude 5.1 earthquake was recorded off the coast of Venezuela – one of hundreds of aftershocks that continue to be recorded in the region.
