Shutdown
House Speaker Mike Johnson warned that the current shutdown could become the longest in history.
Johnson said he would not negotiate with Democrats until they suspended their demands on healthcare and resumed work, the AP reports.
“We are approaching one of the longest shutdowns in American history,” the speaker said.
He is unaware of the details of the dismissal of thousands of federal employees by the administration of US President Donald Trump.
The House of Representatives is not working, and the Republican speaker refuses to bring lawmakers back to Washington.
On October 1, the US government ceased operations.
