US wants to understand how far Russia is willing to go

"The ball is now in Russia's court. I think they have a proposal. There are about four documents on the table right now. There is a 20-point peace plan along with multilateral security guarantees, security guarantees provided by the US, and then a plan for economic growth and prosperity after peace. And all of them are being discussed in real time. And I think we now have a pretty good understanding of what Ukraine wants. I think we are trying to figure out what Russia is willing to do at most. I mean, they continue to carry out these massive attacks overnight against Ukraine. I mean, that speaks for itself to a certain extent. But, you know, President Trump is the only one, as the chief peacemaker, who can bring both sides to the negotiating table and see if he can get a deal done. And in my opinion, he and his team are making a tremendous effort," said US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker on Fox News.

He agreed that the only one who did not recognize that there were too many casualties and that negotiations were necessary was Putin.

“But Russia has never been willing to admit that. And they have always been willing to suffer more than most countries. Such losses and millions of casualties would never be tolerated by any other country except Russia. And at the same time, this is what they are doing for very little, if any, gains on the battlefield,” he said.
