Xi Jinping rejects Putin’s failed project

Putin had hoped to use the visit to finally secure Xi’s approval for Russia’s proposal to build the “Power of Siberia-2” gas pipeline, which could supply China with 50 billion cubic meters of Russian gas annually. However, the talks did not yield the result Putin had hoped for, according to The Washington Post.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that there is currently no information on specific timelines for launching the project.

“In fact, during the talks, the president said that there is already a general understanding of the main parameters of ‘Power of Siberia 2,’” Peskov said.

He added that there is an understanding of the route and how it will be built. Some details still need to be worked out, but overall, such an understanding already exists.

Moscow is increasingly concerned about China’s role as a major supplier of components for Ukrainian drones, which has helped sharply increase production over the past year, despite the fact that Russia also depends on these supplies.

During the talks, Xi and Putin jointly criticized U.S. policy, condemned unilateral hegemony, and supported the deepening of the strategic partnership between China and Russia.
