US is preparing for war with Mali

JNIM has established a stronghold in Mali and is increasingly launching attacks in coastal West African countries, according to The Washington Post.

The Sahel Alliance consists of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger – all West African countries where military leaders have overthrown democratically elected governments in recent years through coups, largely severed ties with the West, and turned to Russia for security assistance.

However, a Trump administration official placed the blame not on these governments but on their Russian partners, claiming that Moscow has demonstrated its ineffectiveness as a security partner for Mali.

There have been no previous reports that the Trump administration is considering military options in this country.

Any direct US military intervention in Mali carries the risk of clashes with Russian forces in the region, which could also require measures to prevent conflicts between Washington and Moscow similar to those that occurred in Syria during that country's civil war.

When asked whether Secretary of State Marco Rubio supports military action in Mali, the State Department declined to answer, but stated that the US unequivocally condemns terrorist activity in Mali.

The department noted that the Trump administration is committed to promoting regional responsibility and cooperation in countering terrorist threats, as well as monitoring indicators and warnings about threats to our homeland.
