US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced plans to ban individuals involved in pressuring American online platforms from entering the US.
"For too long, ideologues in Europe have organized attempts to force American platforms to punish American views they oppose. The Trump administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship. Today, the State Department will take steps to ban leading figures in the global censorship-industrial complex from entering the United States. We are prepared to expand this list if others do not change course," Rubio wrote.
In July 2025, the US Congress Judiciary Committee published a report in which the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA) was recognized as a “threat of foreign censorship.”
In December 2025, US President Donald Trump criticized the European Commission's decision to fine American billionaire Elon Musk's social network X €120 million (about $140 million) for violating EU digital services rules.
